Lyric of the Day

Ahhhhh… The one hit wonder.

Nobody remembers this guy. I didn’t even remember this guy’s name, I had to Google the lyrics to this song. It’s been stuck in my head allllllll day.

If you’re of an age, you’ll remember David Essex’s Rock On as well. Great song, horrific ear worm, when I was younger I always confused it with Lou Reed’s Walk on the Wild Side.

Meh, there’s a reason why no one remembers David Essex, it’s certainly not just bad luck on his part, (although one must remember that early blues fusion and mullets ARE mutually exclusive) but this song is pretty good, and misery loves company so….

David Essex — Rock On

Hey kid rock and roll
Rock on, ooh my soul
Hey kid. boogey too, did ya
Hey shout, summertime blues
Jump up and down in my blue suede shoes
Hey kid you rock and roll, rock on
And where do we go from here?
Which is a way that’s clear?
Still looking for that blue jean, baby queen
Prettiest girl I’ve ever seen
See her shake on the movie screen, Jimmy Dean (James Dean)
And where do we go from here?
Which is a way that’s clear?
Still looking for that blue jean, baby queen
Prettiest girl I’ve ever seen
See her shake on the movie screen, Jimmy Dean
Jimmy Dean
Rock on
Rock on
Rock on
Rock on
Rock on…
Hey kid rock and roll
Rock on, rock on
Hey shout, summertime blues
Rock on, rock on
Hey kid boogey too
Rock on, rock on
Hey kid rock and roll
Rock on, rock on
Okay, it’s not Shakespeare, but it’s that kind of day. See if you can get it out of your head.

Love,

    1. Yeeeeah, that’s him. Mullet and all. As far as I’m concerned (Momus feels differently) that song is way better to listen to than to watch him perform live.
It was that commercial that put this song in my head, BTW. I saw it too. EARWORM!

  1. I loved David Essex! Had such a crush on him. His poster hung on my bedroom door where I practised kissing on him! I know I shouldn’t say that out loud. But I did. 😛 He was so gorgeous and had such a twinkle in his eye. I saw him in concert in Glasgow and felt quite shy about seeing him in the flesh – definitely didn’t throw my knickers at him but I’m sure a fair few did. ‘Hold Me Close’. I was 14! Gie’s a break. 🙂

    1. OMG, I’ve never met anyone who crushed on David Essex!!!! That’s awesome that you kissed his poster – Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me. I had a New Kids on the Block poster and damn if Jordan’s mouth wasn’t a little worn out by the time I took it down.

      1. Phew! It wasn’t just me then. 🙂 David Essex was pretty big here at the time along with David Cassidy, The Osmonds and all that era. I never kissed Donny. Swear! He would have swallowed me!

      2. BTW- I have never, in my entire existence as an agent of the American music industry, before or after, heard that song. Not once. I’d remember. I don’t think it ever made it as far as our shores. I could be wrong but I don’t really think so.

      3. My sister had a HUGE David Cassidy fixation. She had a life-sized poster of him hanging on the inside of her bedroom door– If I remember correctly, the mouth and face was a little worn on that poster too…
